Susan Hedlund, M.S.W., is Director of Patient and Family Support Services at the Oregon Health & Sciences University /Knight Cancer Center in Portland, where she supervises all aspects of oncology social work services. She is also an Associate Professor in the School of Medicine at the Oregon Health & Sciences University, where she serves as Senior Scholar at the Center for Ethics in Health Care.  Ms. Hedlund has counseled hundreds of patients and families taking part in Oregon's Death With Dignity program since 1997 (the Oregon equivalent of New Jersey's new Medical Aid In Dying law).


After completing the course, the participant will be able to:

1. Explain special considerations in counseling patients at the end of life and their families.

2. List the skills most effective in discussing end-of-life options with patients and families.

3. Assess his/her own comfort in navigating these conversations.


  • One (1) contact hour for nurses.

 WEBINAR FEE: $99 for Members; $149 for Non-Members.  Fee covers one telephone line.  Agencies are encouraged to gather their staff in a room with a speakerphone.
